(Here's the conversation we had about this.)
"Hey Kim, can you bake us a cake?"
"Well, I'm kind of busy babe" (then I noticed his face changed...) "Oh no...Babe, did you already tell the guys you're bringing a cake?"
"Well... yes"
"Babe, you can't do that!"
"But can you babe...please?" (notice the "cute little tilt of his head and a pouty lip")
argh "okay babe, I'll do it!"
So when I started thinking of all I had to do today, it made me think about the story of the cake, where a daughter is telling her Mother how everything is going wrong, she's failing algebra, her boyfriend broke up with her and her best friend is moving away.
Meanwhile, her Mother is baking a cake and asks her daughter if she would like a snack, and the daughter says, "Absolutely Mom, I love your cake."
"Here, have some cooking oil," her Mother offers.
"Yuck" says her daughter.
"How about a couple raw eggs?"
"Gross, Mom!"
"Would you like some flour then? Or maybe baking soda?"
"Mom, those are all yucky!"
(my cake in the process, just the mix, water, 6 eggs, and some oil. doesn't look to good huh?)
The story continues when the mother replies: "Yes, all those things seem bad all by themselves but when they are put together in the right way, they make a wonderfully delicious cake!
God works the same way. Many times we wonder why He would let us go through such bad and difficult times. But God knows that when He puts these things all in His order, they always work for good! We just have to trust Him and, eventually, they will all make something wonderful!
Just like I have to put all the proper ingredients in the cake for it to turn out well, He has already done the same in you and I, enjoy the piece of cake He has given you today and remember...
Romans 8:28
And we know that all things work together
for good to them that love God,
to them who are the called according to his purpose.
(my cakes I made today!)
